Sukanta Chaudhuri Biography 
Sukanta Chaudhuri is a literary scholar and professor. His wife Supriya Chaudhuri is a professor and scholar of English literature. The duo has authored many books together, such as Writing Over: Medieval to Renaissance and Petrarch and the Renaissance. Sukanta Chaudhuri studied at Presidency College, Kolkata and the University of Oxford, and later taught at Presidency College for long 18 years since 1972. He is the founding Director of the School of Cultural Texts and Records, a pioneering centre of digital humanities in India. Sukanta Chaudhuri has translated many Bengali works of 19th and 20th century writers to English. His works and efforts on textual studies and editorial theory over the years, definitely worth mentioning.
Sukanta Chaudhuri was born in the year 1950 in West Bengal. Some of his monographs were published in the 1980s. Glory: Shakespeare and the Renaissance Image of Man and Renaissance Pastoral and Its English Developments are his major monographs. He also remained as an editor of a few works, including several collections of essays on the Renaissance. He translated some of the major works written by Tagore and others to English language. He also translated many modern Bengali poems to English. He also translated the complete limericks of Edward Lear into Bengali.
He is interested in urban studies, English and European Renaissance and drama. His Bengali play Jaha Chai was staged by theatre group Nandikar in 2007. He served as the General Editor of the Oxford Tagore Translations, published in five volumes between 2000 and 2006. He currently serves as the Professor Emeritus at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The distinguished Renaissance and textual scholar has also delivered lectures at many foreign educational institutions such as All Souls College, Oxford; St John’s College, Cambridge; Loyola University, Chicago etc.
