Sujith Shankar Biography

Sujith Shankar is a character artist associated with Malayalam cinema, who gained popularity in the recent times. He is best known for playing the role of Jimson Augustine in Dileesh Pothan’s debut film as a director, Maheshinte Prathikaaram released in 2016. He has handled both villain roles and positive character roles will ease. Made his debut with Njan Steve Lopez in 2014, he played a positive role of Rabbi Marques in 2017 super hit film, Ezra, starring Prithviraj. C/O Saira Banu and Comrade In America are his other releases of 2017 and both the movies got well-received. The new antihero of Malayalam, many surprises are yet to happen.

Sujith Shankar is the grandson of iconic Kerala politician, E. M. S. Namboodiripad, who served as the first Chief Minister of Kerala state. He is the son of E. M. Sreedharan and Dr. Yamini, well-known social figures. Sujith Shankar gained attention in Malayalam cinema for his intense eyes, and that may be the reason why he mostly plays negative shades on silver screen. In his debut film, Njan Steve Lopez in 2014 directed by Rajeev Ravi, he played the most memorable role of the film, a henchman Hari who locks Steve in a room. Though his character is grey shaded, as film rolls, it shows some positive shades as well. His role as Hari leaves an imprint in audience’s mind, and his role was of course, pivotal.

Since then he played many positive and negative shades on screen and all his roles have been noticed. Though he was born into a family with great social-political background, he has always maintained a low profile. Also this humble actor doesn’t want to be known as EMS’s grandson. His father is the son of this legendary leader of Kerala politics. His father E.M. Sreedharan was a well-known chartered accountant. Soon after the death of EMS in 1999, three deaths occurred in the family within 5 years and two of them were Sujith’s parents. His grandmother Arya Antharjanam was the third one.
