Sudhir Pandey Biography

Sudhir Pandey is a veteran actor associated with Hindi entertainment industry. He is best known for playing elderly character roles in movies and television. Most recently he was seen playing Akshay Kumar’s father in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) which earned him loud noise of applause. Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women (2003), Saagar (1985) and Tum Mere Ho (1990) are other noted roles. A senior-most artist of Indian television industry, he portrayed the role of Lala Gaindamal in the iconic Doordarshan series, Buniyaad.

His career spans to more than three decades and he is still active in the field. As a paternal figure in television serials he continues to be a household name. His effortless acting skills and dialogue delivery have been well capitalized in soap operas and some of his noted roles on small screen include - grandfather in “Sasural Genda Phool”, Mayka, Balika Vadhu, Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna, Mera Sasural, Amanat etc.

Sudhir was born in Uttarakhand, British India on December 22, 1940. He was born into a family of artists. He is the son of Radio broadcaster and actor Devki Nandan Pandey. When he entered film world, there was no television. He was associated with theatre before he became active in films. He became fully active in film industry which provided him the only source of income during his early days. The inception of television gave a ray of hope to many talented theatre and film artists of 1970s and 1980s, and Pandey was one among them. ‘Buniyaad' scripted by Manoj Shyam Joshi gave him the real break which Pandey truly deserved.

Since mid-1980s, Sudhir became an integral part of Hindi television industry. Lala Lahori Ram from Amanat and Dadu Ji in Mere Angane Mein made him a very popular artist. Many of his shows have been dubbed to Tamil, and made him a household name among Tamil viewers too.
