Sonali Kulkarni Biography

Sonali Kulkarni –Pune born Marathi is an Indian actress who worked in both Hindi and Marathi movies. She is most famous for her roles in Dil Chahta Hai opposite Saif Ali Khan, Pyar tune kya kiya opposite Fardeen Khan, Dil vil pyar vyar opposite Madhavan and Mission Kashmir opposite Sanjay Dutt. Though she is not a big star of Bollywood, she has proved herself to be a fine actress in Marathi who has given remarkable performance in movies like Chaitra, Devara and Restaurant.

 

She debut acting field through a Kannada movie ‘Cheluvi’ in the year 1992. She has done one movie in Tamil ‘Mey Madham’, opposite Vinith in 1994. The songs composed by A.R.Rehman were well-noticed, particularly the song ‘Margazhi poove’ pictured on her. Her first Bollywood movie was critically well acclaimed movie of Amol Palekar – Daayra in the year in 1996. She did the leading role in the movie. She debuted in Marathi movies through ‘Doghi’ in 1995. After that she did supporting roles in Bollywood for a series of movies including Kya yehi pyar hai, Dr.Dadasahed Ambedkar, Dil chahta hai, Darna zaroori hai, Sirf, Well done Abbha, Pyar tune kya kiya, Love kichadi, Singham, I see you, Bride and Prejudice, Mission Kashmir, Taxi no.9211 and Kitne door kitne paas. Her supporting roles in hit movies like Singham, Dil vil pyar vyar, Mission Kashmir and Dil chahta hai were well noticed.

 

She is also remembered for the beautifully choreographed song ‘Jise doodtha hai’, along with Saif Ali Khan in Dil Chahta hai, the song that won Filmfare awards for its unique style of choreography. Her role as photographer Fardeen Khan’s wife in Pyar tune kya kiya, where Urmila played the role of an obsessive lover was also nice.  For an Italian movie ‘Fuoco Di Su Me’ in 2006, she has won an award in Milan International film festival. For the non-feature Marathi film ‘Chaitra’, she has won Special Jury Awards in National film awards category.

 

Apart from movies, she has also served as an editor for Marathi daily newspaper ‘Loksatta’ and was a successful columnist too, whose works were collectively published later as ‘So Kool’. She has also worked in a few Doordarshan serials like Gulabari and Fuoco Di Su Me during 90’s.  She is married to Nachiket Pantvaidya, MD of FOX studios India and has two children. It’s the second marriage of both these celebrities.
