Sohan Roy Biography

Sohan Roy is a successful entrepreneur and businessman based at Sharjah, and is also an Indian film director best known for directing the controversial film, DAM999 released in English and Malayalam languages. A successful businessman, he is a naval architect and is the founder chairman & CEO of Aries Group of Companies. Most recently in 2018, Roy's Aries group has also taken over actor Mohanlal's Vismayas Max studio complex. Forbes has listed Roy among top Indian leaders of Arab world 2015. Aries Group is now a conglomerate of 43 establishments in 15 countries.

 

Sohan was born in Punalur of Kollam district, Kerala. Roy started his career as a marine engineer. Later he worked as a marine surveyor at several companies worldwide, and started his career as a business entrepreneur in the same field. He started Aries Marine & Engineering Services in 1998 - the flagship unit of Aries Group of Companies. His group handled technical consultancy and project management services in the marine field and established in Sharjah.

 

In 2011, he directed one Indian film, DAM999 which was rumoured to be based on the Mullaperiyar Dam dispute between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and the sitting CM Jayalalithaa banned the release of the film in Tamil Nadu. The film had an ensemble star cast of Indian actors belonging to different language films, and a few of them include - Joshua Fredric Smith, Vimala Raman, Megha Burman, Linda Arsenio, Rajit Kapoor etc. Same year he directed one short film titled, Dams: The Lethal Water Bombs in English.

 

As a film producer, he has financed a few movies as well. Kamasutra 3D and Saint Dracula 3D, both directed by Rupesh Paul, and Jalam, a Malayalam movie are among those. Burning Wells is his upcoming flick, where he plays the double role of producer and director.
