Sivakumar Vijayan Biography

Sivakumar Vijayan is an Indian cinematographer associated with Tamil cinema. Initially he did the camera work of a few short films in the late 2000s, before he turned cinematographer of films. He did the camera work of Madhavan starrer Tamil-Hindi bilingual film, Irudhi Suttru/Saala Khadoos in 2015 and earned appreciation. Iraivi (2016), NGK, Kolamavu Kokila (2018), Sathriyan (2017) and Vidiyum Munn (2013) are a few more works, and most of his films remained successful at box office.

 

Sivakumar Vijayan hails from a middle class family of Chennai. He grew up in Chennai and Kolkata, where he completed his education. He pursued engineering degree from Madras University and also completed a master's in Media and Entertainment business administration. Since college days he was passionate about film photography, put prompted him to try his luck in cinema. For that he joined Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and studied cinematography.  As a part of academics he shot a few short films.

 

Initially he worked as an assistant cinematographer in the industry and worked for the movies – Amitabh Bachchan starrer Paa (2009) and 2012 Telugu film, Ishq. His first full-fledged feature film as a cinematographer was Vidiyum Munn (2013). Tamil thriller film directed by Balaji K. Kumar was well accepted by critics and audience and the film’s success helped him to earn more offers from Tamil cinema.

 

His second released film was a sports drama Iruthi Sutru directed by Sudha K Prasad. The movie had a Hindi version as well. Tamil version was a hit while Hindi version flopped at box office. His work was critically acclaimed.
