Simple Kapadia Biography

Simple Kapadia was an actress and costume designer of Bollywood. She is better known as the younger sister of top actress and wife of superstar Rajesh Khanna, Dimple Kapadia. She was the aunt of Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. She has appeared in lead roles opposite Rajesh Khanna in Anurodh and opposite Jeetendra in Shaaka. In a career spanning to about 10 years as an actress, she mostly appeared in supporting roles in movies and a few of her noted roles include Arth, Jeevan Dhara, Hum Rahe Na Hum and Dulha Bikta Hai. As an actress she ended her career in 1987 with the movie Parakh and later became a costume designer. She won National award for best costumes for the movie Rudali in 1994. She died on 10 November 2009 aged 51.

Simple Kapadia was born on 15 August 1958. She began her career when she was 18 years old debuting opposite her brother-in-law Rajesh Khanna in the movie Anurodh, released in 1977. Though she appeared in lead roles opposite stars in Bollywood, she was more interested in costume designing and ended her career as an actress. She appeared in movies like Chakravyuh, Man pasand, Hum Rahe Na Hum, Pyar ke do pal, Rehguzar, Parakh, Lootmaar, Ahsaas, Shakka, Zamane ko dikhana hai and Jeevan Dhara.  She has also appeared in a Tamil movie, Kizakkum Merkum Sandhikarana.

As a costume designer her noted works include – Chachi 420, Rudali, Ghatak, Jaan, Barsaat, Rok soko to rok lo, Naksha, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, Ajooba, Lekin, Shehzaade, 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, yeh hai Mumbai meri jaan, Ajay and Uff Yeh Mohabbat. Kapadia was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. Yet she was busy with her work and she died on 10 November 2009 aged 51.
