Siddharth Lama Biography

Siddharth Lama is a Nepali actor, familiar to Malayalis as ‘Unnikuttan’ (Rimpoche) - memorable role in the Malayalam blockbuster Yodha (1992). Then a six-year-old, Lama shot to fame and immense popularity in Kerala and his chemistry with Mohanlal was well appreciated. The movie marked the debut of Sangeeth Sivan as a director and it was one of the earliest works of A. R. Rahman as a music composer. In fact Roja was released just three months before Yodha – the only Malayalam movie for which Rahman has composed music. Lama has worked in several Nepali movies as a child artist and he made a comeback to Malayalam films with Lenin Rajendran's Edavappathi: No Man’s Land alongside Manisha Koirala in 2012. He played the male lead opposite Utthara Unni.

He was born in 1985 in Pokhara, Nepal to a Nepali film maker and actor Yubraj Lama. His father worked with him for the memorable film Yodha, where he was seen kidnapping the child. Lama has completed graduation and currently works with the Nepal National Sports Council. He was once a drug addict, but now recovered from it and has authored one book - Drug and Drug Addiction. Apart from numerous child roles, Siddharth has played male lead in one Nepali film – Gandharva. He has also worked in many short films. He is now married and has one 18 month old daughter – Aaranya.

Mohanlal met Siddharth in 2012 after a long period of 20 years and it was a dramatic moment for both. Siddharth was so surprised to see Mohanlal energetic and young as before. Since then Mohanlal stays in touch with Siddharth and when earthquake hit Nepal April this year, Mohanlal called him to make sure that he and his family were safe. Ashokan and Unnikuttan from Yodha still remain fresh in the minds of Malayali movie buffs; and plans are going on for its sequel.
