Shylashri Biography

Shylashri is a south Indian film actress, who predominantly worked in Kannada films. She has also done a few Tamil and one Malayalam movie too. She has done lead, parallel and supporting roles, and has shared screen space with some of the leading male stars of her name. She is married noted Kannada actor R. N. Sudarshan with whom she has shared screen space for movies such as Naguva Hoovu, Kadina Rahasya, Kallara Kalla, Malathi Madhava, and a few more. She worked with legendary actor Rajkumar for movies such as Bangarada Hoovu, Makkale Manege Manikya, Nakkare Ade Swarga etc. Now she has retired from silver screen.

Shylashri remained a very popular Kannada actress during mid-60s to 70s. She began her career with a small role in the Malayalam movie, Kalanjukittiya Thankam directed by famous director SR Puttanna. The movie was released in 1964. Her Kannada debut happened with the film Sandhya Raga released in 1966. Since then she has played numerous shades of female characters onscreen. She even experimented with vamp and dancer roles onscreen. She rose to fame in the 1970s, and worked with many lead heroes. She has been a part of several multi-starrer Kannada movies during this period.

As a film actress she is best known for her performance in highly acclaimed 1971 film, Naguva Hoovu. She wrote the story of the movie, which won national award for best regional film. The film was directed by R. N. K. Prasad, and she played the lead role of a nurse opposite her future husband R. N. Sudarshan in this movie. This film was screened at IFFI 1992 Kannada cinema Retrospect. She took retirement from film industry in the mid-1970s.
