Shreyas Iyer Biography

Shreyas Iyer is an Indian cricketer associated with India national cricket team. One of the recent joint members of Indian cricket team, he played his first T20 match against New Zealand in 1 November 2017 and made his ODI debut through ongoing Sri Lankan series on 10 December 2017. He scored 88 runs in his debut ODI and helped India win by 141 runs. He also managed to score 66 runs in the final match of the series and India won the series by 2-1 on December 17, 2017.

 

For IPL T-20 matches he is currently associated with Delhi Daredevils team, and also a member of Mumbai team in domestic cricket. He has earlier played for the India Under-19 cricket team at the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Most prolific young batsman in domestic cricket, known for his higher run scoring rate, he has a great career ahead.

 

He was born on 6 December 1994 in Mumbai. But his ancestral home is in Thrissur, Kerala. His parents are settled in Mumbai. He was spotted by coach Pravin Amre at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana at the age of 12, and later he trained this teenager. Players of his age group used to compare him with Virender Sehwag for his batting style and run scoring. He did his graduation at Podar College in Mumbai, and was fully active in cricket throughout his academic years.

 

In 2014 Iyer represented Trent Bridge Cricket Team during a trip of the U.K. He created a new record scoring 297 runs from 3 matches at an average of 99. He made his List-A debut for Mumbai in 2014–15 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He made his first-class cricket debut in 2014–15 Ranji Trophy. Since then he has played 45 First Class matches scoring around 4000 runs.

 

In the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy, Iyer scored 1,321 runs during the tournament becoming the top scorer of the Ranji season, and in the following season scored 725 runs, which gave him a direct entry to Indian Cricket team. As of now, he has played ODI and scored half-centuries in both and also 3 T20 matches.
