Shobu Yarlagadda Biography

Shobu Yarlagadda is an Indian-American film producer who is the co-founder and CEO of Arka Mediaworks, a film production company. He predominantly works in Telugu cinema. He is the son-in-law of veteran film maker K. Raghavendra Rao who has given many iconic movies to Telugu cinema. Vedam in 2010 starring Allu Arjun was his first production venture, followed by Maryada Ramanna (2010), Panjaa (2011) and Baahubali: The Beginning (2015).

As a film producer he is best known for the film – Baahubali: The Beginning, the magnum opus of director s. s. Rajamouli. He co-produced this expensive film aside Prasad Devineni. The film was a visual treat to viewers and became the first south Indian film which crossed box office collection of 600 crores. Its Hindi version became the first dubbed south Indian film to cross 100 crore mark. The movie also bagged numerous awards at various film functions and National award for best feature film. Shobu is also the co-producer of its concluding part. His father-in-law K. Raghavendra Rao and Prasad Devineni are other co-producers of the film.

He was born in 1971 in Gudivada, Krishna District. He completed Civil and Environmental Engineering from Andhra University in 1992. Then he moved abroad where he completed Agricultural Engineering at Texas A & M. He worked as Air Resources Engineer at California before he established Arka Mediaworks in 2001. He started off producing TV shows before switching to movies. He worked as line producer and Executive Producer for a few movies, before he produced Vedam in 2010. The movie earned both Nandi awards and Filmfare for best feature film. His association with S. S. Rajamouli began with Maryada Ramanna in 2010. He also produced the film, Panjaa directed by Vishnuvardhan in 2011. The movie received CineMAA Awards for best film and has been remade into all south Indian languages and Hindi.
