Shilpa Singh Biography

Shilpa Singh is an Indian model from Bihar who was the runner-up at I Am She – Miss Universe India 2012. She represented India at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant at Las Vegas and managed to reach top 16. It was for the last time in 2007 when an Indian model was able to reach the top 16. Thus Shilpa ended a four years pageant drought in India since Pooja Gupta became a finalist in 2007. She is an IT specialist and works in Infosys Technologies at present. Though Urvashi Rautela was the original title holder of Miss Universe India 2012, she was replaced by Shilpa to represent India in Miss Universe contest, as Urvashi was too young to compete.  

She belongs to Samastipur, Bihar. She completed B. Tech. in Computer Science from Mukesh Patel School of Technology, Mumbai. She became the runner-up at ‘I Am She – Miss Universe India 2012’, which shot her to instant recognition. However she was in panic when she came to know that Urvashi was dethroned and she is to represent India for Miss Universe contest. Actually she hasn’t done any preparations for this greatest event of World Fashion. Urvashi was a big contender for the crown and Sushmita Sen tried her level best to send her for the beauty pageant. But things failed. Shilpa was so nervous that she didn’t share the news with anyone for two days, even her family members.

Later she was groomed by her mentor Sushmita Sen. She learnt a lot by just watching her. She personally helped Shilpa to pack her luggage and personally went shopping to get some amazing things for her wardrobe. She even kept an eye on her strict diet and checked her fitness classes.  Shilpa is a trained Kathak dancer and she used to perform at cultural events since childhood. She got encouragement from her mother a lot. She was selected for the special batch in Shiamak Davar’s institute; couldn’t join it due to her college commitments.
