Shashank Khaitan Biography

Shashank Khaitan is a very successful young director associated with Bollywood since 2014. He has directed three films up-to-date and all belongs to musical romantic genre. He tasted success of all these three films as well, thus leaving a mark in the film industry. He made his impressive debut as a film director through Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in 2014 starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. He made its sequel titled Badrinath Ki Dulhania in 2017 with its lead actors reprising their roles in the original version. In 2018 he directed Dhadak which marked the screen debut of late actress Sridevi’s daughter Jhanvi Kapoor and Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother, Ishaan Khatter. The movie reached 100 crore club, thus making it one of the biggest hits of the year, and also the third Khaitan film to achieve this feat in a row, thus completing a hat-trick.

Shashank Khaitan is currently one of the top young directors of Hindi cinema. Romance is his favourite genre with some good songs. He directed three films in the past 4 years and all those films crossed 100 crore Indian rupee collection mark, making it a very unique achievement for a newcomer. All his three releases have been blockbusters, and playing a magnificent role in the career building of its lead actors.

Shashank Khaitan hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. He was born in the year 1982 into a business family. But he grew up in Nasik, Maharashtra where he grew up. He used to watch movies since young. Yet he was interested in sports then. But at the age of 17, he had almost decided to join entertainment industry. He started off as a dance instructor and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Bollywood. He studied at Whistling Woods International Institute, where he learnt the basic techniques of filmmaking. In 2008 he started off with short films, and also worked as an assistant director under Subhash Ghai, before he directed his first film in 2014.
