Shantipriya Biography

Shantipriya is an Indian film actress, better known as the younger sister of the well-established south Indian queen – Bhanupriya. One of the busy actresses of Bollywood in the early 1990s, she has played heroine roles opposite Akshay Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, etc. She was the first heroine of superstar Akshay Kumar. She played female lead opposite Akshay Kumar for the movies – Saugandh and Ikke Pe Ikka, and was paired with Mithun Chakraborty for Meherbaan, Phool Aur Angaar, Mere Sajana Saath Nibhana etc. Apart from Bollywood, she has also acted in Tamil and Telugu movies and a few south Indian serials. Shanti was married to Siddharth Ray - the grandson of V. Shantaram who has acted in pivot roles in films like Baazigar(1993) and Vansh.

Her real name is Nisanti. She was born in Andra Pradesh, Rajahmundry. The family later settled in Chennai. Her elder sister Bhanupriya has been one of the leading south Indian stars in the 1980s and 1990s. Nishanti took the screen name Shanti Priya and made her debut at the age of 19 years with the blockbuster movie Enga Ooru Pattukaran in 1988. Maharshi in 1989 marked her Telugu debut. Her success in south Indian industry opened her doors to Bollywood. She made her Bollywood debut through Saugandh in 1991, which happened to be the debut movie of Akshay Kumar too.

They got married in 1999 and had two sons. However died of massive heart attack in 2004, aged only 40, leaving behind his wife and two small kids. Shanti took a break from industry since then and returned with 2008 TV Series - Mata Ki Chowki - Kalyug Mein Bhakti Ki Shakti, followed by Dwarkadheesh – Bhagwaan Shree Krishna in 2011. Both are mythological series. She made a comeback to Bollywood films with - Hamilton Palace in 2011, directed by Raj Sippi and lead role played by Mahakshay Chakraborty, son of Mithunda.
