Shanker Ramakrishnan Biography

Shanker Ramakrishnan is a screenwriter, director, producer and actor associated with Malayalam cinema. He has portrayed numerous character and grey shaded roles on screen. He has also played comic roles, thus experimenting with different genres of film roles. Some of his noted film roles as an actor include - "Seconds", “Love 24X7”, “Peruchazhi”, “Spirit”, “Bavuttiyude Namathil”, "How Old Are You" etc. He marked his acting debut with 2012 movie, Spirit, which earned him a nomination at SIIMA Awards for Best Male Debutant in Malayalam. As a screenwriter, he is best known for scripting the highly acclaimed and one of the most expensive Malayalam films, Urumi starring Prithviraj in lead role. He scripted and directed the segment, Island Express in the anthology film, Kerala Café in 2009.

Shanker hails from Gowreesha Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. His name was earlier credited as Shankar Ramakrishnan. He completed his Master’s from the prestigious, School of Management Studies, CUSAT. Soon after studies, he joined film stream. His first experience in the film industry was as a screenwriter and director, when he scripted and directed the segment, Island Express in the anthology film, Kerala Café in 2009. Prithviraj played lead role in this segment, who invited him to script his upcoming production venture, Urumi. Urumi is still regarded as one among the career best roles of Prithviraj, and the movie was helmed by Santosh Sivan.

As an actor, he made an impressive debut with Mohanlal starrer Spirit in 2011. He played the memorable character role of Alexy, Kaniha’s present husband and Mohanlal’s friend in the movie. His role left a mark in audience’s hearts, and movie is known for such many impressive performances by supporting cast. After that he turned fully active in cinema playing different traits of character roles.
