Shankar Sampingiraj Biography

Shankar Sampingiraj is an Indian professional footballer who hails from Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka. He plays primarily as a defensive midfielder. He also plays for Indian Super League - professional football league in India, and currently a member of FC Pune City. He has previously played for several football clubs of India such as Pailan Arrows, Bengaluru FC, Kerala Blasters, ATK, DSK Shivajians etc, and he got into professional career since 2010.

 

Shankar hails from Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka. He was born on 14 December 1994. Sampingiraj started his professional career with HAL, and appeared in I-League during the 2010–11 season. During a match against Pune, he suffered a ligament tear and had to do surgery on his right knee. For the same reason he missed this season. He signed for the Pailan Arrows then of I-League for the 2011-12 I-League season, and was loaned out to DSK Shivajians of the I-League 2nd Division for the 2013 I-League 2nd Division. He played six matches, and scored one goal. But it was not enough for his team to reach the final round.

 

He signed with Bengaluru FC to play I-league in July 2013, and was announced that he would play for the side. As his contract period with Pailan Arrows didn’t end then, All India Football Federation stopped Sampingiraj from joining the team. But later he signed with Bengaluru FC on loan and scored his first goal in an AFC Cup game on 24 February 2015, against Maziya of the Maldives. He was drafted to play for Kerala Blasters FC in the 2015 Indian Super League. He made his Indian U23 debut against Uzbekistan U23 on 27 March 2015. He played I-League with Bengaluru FC during 2013-2016.
