Shalu Kurian Biography

Shalu Kurian is a noted television actress associated with Malayalam, who shot to fame playing the negative shaded role Varsha in the popular series – Chandana Mazha on Asianet. She received a special jury award at Asianet 2014 Television award for her outstanding performance as ‘Varsha’. Thingalum Tharangalum directed by Purushothaman, aired on Amrita TV was her first break to acting on mini screen. Kadamattathu Kathaanar directed by TS Suresh Babu, Kudumpa Police in kairali TV, Sarayu in surya TV and Indira in Mazhavil manorama are her noted television serials. Now she is one of the top actresses of Malayalam mini screen. She is also a familiar face to Tamil audience through daily soaps and has also appeared in a few movies.

 

She hails from the Kottayam district of Kerala and is currently settled in the capital city. Shalu completed her schooling from BMM English Medium School, Kottayam. She is a trained classical dancer, who performs since school days. Now she does stage shows and takes dancing as her professional career as well. She is also a successful model, who regularly appears in Malayalam ads. Parthas Textiles and Indulekha are her noted ads and she got the television series, Chattambi Kalyani when the renowned director Sreekumaran Thampi happened to see the Indulekha ad.

 

She made her film debut through "Jubilee" in 2008 and has later played a few character roles. "Kabadi Kabadi", directed by Sudhir Manu and "Kappal Muthalali", directed by Thaha are her noted appearances in a character role, though both the movies flopped at box office. "Nanthuni", "Romans" and "Omega. Exe" are other releases. She took negative roles as a challenge after fed up with positive roles and she became more successful in her grey shades.
