Seema Azmi Biography

Seema Azmi is an Indian actress who is associated with films and theatre. She is of Azhamgarh, UP origin, but was born in Guwahati, Assam. She has done supporting roles in a few Bollywood films and she earned initial recognition playing the role of Rani Dispotta in Shah Rukh starrer sports drama - Chak De! India. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Aarakshan, Water, Saas Bahu Aur Sensex etc are other major releases. Around 5 films featuring Azmi is slated to release. Azmi mostly plays supporting roles on screen. She has worked with some of the eminent Theatre personalities of second half of 20th century and later.

 

Seema Azmi is mostly credited as ‘Seema’ in films. She was born in Guwahati, Assam. She celebrates her birthday on 8 January. She is of Uttar Pradesh origin, born in Assam and was brought up in Delhi, where she completed her graduation as well as diploma in acting from the prestigious NSD. She completed her training in 2001 and was selected for the NSD Repertory Company the same year. During her stint with NSD, she got opportunity to work with some of the leading theater personalities of the country. Prior to her association with National School of Drama, she worked as a stage actress in Asmita theatre group, Delhi since 1996.

 

In association with Asmita theatre group, she has been a part of some of the popular plays of 1990s such as Girish Karnad's Rakt Kalyan, Mahesh Dattani's Final Solutions, Ek Mamooli Aadmi, Swadesh Deepak's Court Martial, and Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist. She has been a part of Lillete Dubey’s Wedding album which was staged more than 150 times. Currently she owns her own theatre group "Shila Shringar", and a solo performance - Sara was its maiden venture.
