Sarasa Balussery Biography

Sarasa Balussery is a stage and film actress belonging to Malayalam entertainment industry. As a film actress she is best known for playing the role of neighbour in the highly acclaimed 2018 Malayalam film, Sudani From Nigeria. Her character name is Beeyumma in the movie, and it’s one of the memorable characters in the movie. She is an accomplished and experienced theatre artist who made a late entry to films. Though she has received many offers before, she never accepted any because of her busy schedule in theatre. When she accepted it she earned a late recognition in 2018. She has once done the role of Mohanlal’s mother for one Malayalam film.

Sarasa Balussery owns more than 45 years of experience in Malayalam theatre. She received this much acting experience from Kozhikode theatre. Her co-star in the movie, Savithri Sreedharan, who played the lovable mother’s role also belongs to same theatre and owns this much experience. As of now she has made more than 1000 stage appearances, in association with Vadakara Varada, Kozhikode Chirandana, Sabha, Sangeerthana and Stage India, and has played many powerful roles on stage. She received Kerala state award for best theatre artist twice in 1992 and 1994. She is still active in theatre career.

The directors were in search of some veteran theatre artists who can play old character artists on screen, without any makeup. Their search ended with three theatre artists from Kozhikode circle, and when the roles were given to respective artists, it was something like realistic, and never experienced on Malayalam screen in the recent past. She played Mohanlal’s mother in Nadake.
