Sanu Varghese Biography

Sanu Varghese is a successful cinematographer associated with Bollywood and south Indian film industry. He got his first major break through Kamal Haasan's spy thriller, Vishwaroopam (2013), and his most recent work - Jersey (2019) was also well-acclaimed. Sanu started his career with Bollywood films and later moved to south Indian cinema and has worked in all south Indian languages. Bollywood flick - Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon (2003) was his first full-fledged project, and later he did Karthik Calling Karthik (2010). Since then he is busy in the industry. Badhaai Ho in 2019 is his most successful Bollywood project up-to-date.

Sanu Varghese hails from a Christian family of Kottayam, Kerala. His full name is     Sanu John Varghese. His education was completed at Thiruvananthapuram and Hyderabad, and he started his career with DD News. He ventured into movies as an assistant of Ravi K. Chandran for movies as well as documentaries. Sanu started his film journey as a full-fledged cinematographer with Bollywood film - Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon in 2003. The movie was co-produced by Ram Gopal Varma and starred Antara Mali in lead role. The movie flopped at box office. However he got more offers from ad field as well as Bollywood film industry.

His second Bollywood venture was the thriller - Karthik Calling Karthik in 2010. He got the first Malayalam project, the highly acclaimed psychological thriller, Elektra the same year. The movie directed by Shyama Prasad was showcased at many film festivals, and since then offers started coming in from different languages including Hindi. Vishwaroopam (2013) and Thoongaa Vanam (2015) are his major works in Tamil, and Badhaai Ho is the best among his works in Bollywood. His work for Telugu movie, Jersey (2019) was also appreciated.
