Sandhya Rajendran Biography

Sandhya Rajendran is a noted theatre and cine artist associated with Malayalam art and film industry. She is the daughter of the legendary theatre personality – O. Madhavan and his wife Vijayakumari, who is also an actress. She is married to actor Rajendran, known for character roles. Famous Malayalam film actor Mukesh is her brother and noted dancer Methil Devika is her sister-in-law. Sandhya’s son Divyadarshan has also debut into Malayalam film industry and has appeared in a few films since 2012.

Sandhya Rajendran was born to famous theater artists - O. Madhavan and Vijayakumari in Kollam. Sandhya has two siblings. Mukesh is the eldest of the three and Sandhya has one younger sister, Jayshree. Though her parents were so busy in their theatric life, the kids were taken care off by grandmother and aunt. O. Madhavan encouraged the creativity of his children since very young days. He used to give puzzles to kids like story making showing a picture or deliver a speech giving a topic, to nourish their creativity. O. Madhavan stood as a great inspirational factor behind Sandhya and siblings’ growth and career development.

Sandhya is a trained classical dancer who learnt Bharatnatyam from Kalamandalam Kshemavathi at Thrissur. Her sister also learnt dance. Sandhya completed school education with good marks and later joined college where she got associated theatre world as well. She played female lead in 1992 National award winning Malayalam film – Swaroopam. The movie was directed by K. R. Mohanan, and Sandhya was paired with Sreenivasan; she played Sreenivasan’s wife Malini. V. K. Sriraman also played a pivot role in the movie. She has also appeared in a few television serials, apart from films and theater roles.
