Sandeep Pandey Biography 
Sandeep Pandey is a social activist, who co-founded Asha for Education with Dr. Deepak Gupta and and V. J. P Srivastava. He was honoured with the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for his efforts as a social activist. Asha for Education focused on RTI and other forms of citizen participation in battling corruption to improve the government’s efficiency. He is also a lecturer by profession, and serves as a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar.
Sandeep Pandey was born on 22 July 1965. He is married to Arundhati Dhuru and the couple has two children. He studied at Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. Then he moved to US for higher studies. He took Master's in manufacturing and computer science from Syracuse University. Then he completed his PhD in control theory at the University of California, and returned to his country to start his professional career as a lecturer at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1992. Later he started Asha for Education with Dr. Deepak Gupta and and V. J. P Srivastava, his batch mates at college. Asha Parivar, a branch founded in 2008 focuses on strengthening democracy in Hardoi district of UP. It also emphasises on Right to Information.
He believes that if more people are actively involved in democracy ensuring more participation, corruption can be removed and functioning of government will be improved too. He currently serves as the leader of National Alliance of People's Movements also. He has served as an adviser to the Indian government's Central Advisory Board for Education. Pandey has been removed from BHU. He once described America as "the biggest terrorist state in the world”, inviting a few controversies.
