Sameer Khakhar Biography

Sameer Khakhar is a noted film actor associated with Bollywood and other language films. He also appears in television playing character roles. As an artist, he earned recognition as a comedian, and is best remembered for playing drunken character Khopdi from iconic TV serial aired on Doordarshan, 'Nukkad' in 1986. His role is regarded as iconic, and gives nostalgic memories to television viewers of 1980s. His most memorable film role is the silent film starring Kamal Hassan, Pushpaka Vimana released in Kannada in 1987. The movie was released in Tamil, Urdu and Hindi too, though it’s a silent film without any dialogues. Sameer played the pivot role of the alcoholic businessman who gets kidnapped by the hero – Kamal Haasan.

 

Sameer Khakhar started his acting career through television in the mid-1980s. He was first seen in one of the top most Doordarshan serials of 1980s, 'Nukkad' in 1986 directed by Kundan Shah and Saeed Akhtar Mirza. His role as drunkard for the show is not easily forgettable. The following year he bagged a meaty role for yet another iconic Indian movie of 1980s, Pushpaka Vimana. Both the roles had comedy shades, and hence Sameer is mostly associated with light comedies.

 

Apart from Nukud, Sameer was a part of many popular serials of Doordarshan in the late 1980s and early 1990s such as Manoranjan, Circus – co-staring Shah Rukh Khan, and Naya Nukkad among the others. As a Bollywood actor, his roles in Parinda, Eena Meena Deeka, Dilwale, Raja Babu, Aatank Hi Aatank, Return of Jewel thief, Shahenshah, Awwal Number, Pyar Deewana Hota Hain, Hum Hain Kamaal Ke etc are memorable. Though he is regular in films now, his roles are less significant.
