Sakthi Chidambaram Biography

Sakthi Chidambaram is a film director associated with Tamil films. He has also done a few character roles onscreen in the recent times. Samrat, Kovai Brothers, Maha Nadigan, Englishkaaran and Vyaabaari are some of his best movies as a film director. He started his film journey as a dialogue writer, later wrote screen plays, and finally became director. Chidambaram made his directorial debut in 1997 with Samrat starring Ramki, a remake of Hindi film Baazigar. As of now, he has directed more than 15 films in Tamil. Sathyaraj & Namitha frequently worked in his films, playing lead roles. Charlie Chaplin starring Prabhu, Prabhu Deva & Abhirami is most successful film, and he is currently working on its sequel.

His real name is C. Dhinakaran. He started his career in the film industry in the early 1990s, writing dialogues for 1992 movie, Kottai Vaasal directed by Selva Vinayagam and produced by Mohan Natarajan and Tharangai V. Shanmugam. He continued the role of a writer in Tamil cinema till mid-1990s, penning dialogues for movies, Pokkiri Thambi, Pathavi Pramanam, Veettai Paru Nattai Paru and Uzhiyan. In 1997 he marked his directorial debut with Samrat. Since then in the past two decades, he has done more than 15 films which included some B-grade flicks too, which couldn’t survive in box office.

He began his association with actor Sathyaraj in the year 2000 with the film, Ennamma Kannu. Though film received mixed reviews it did well at box office. Later they worked together for three releases in a row, excluding one shelved project - Mr. Narathar. Maha Nadigan, Englishkaran and Kovai Brothers are those three releases, one film in a year beginning with Maha Nadigan in 2004. They joined hands for the next and final time in 2010 for the movie, Guru Sishyan.
