Saket Chaudhary Biography

Saket Chaudhary is a Bollywood film director and screenwriter, best known for the movies - Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), and its sequel Shaadi Ke Side Effects in 2014. While Pyaar Ke Side Effects – starring Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat in pivot roles was a commercial hit, its sequel starring Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan failed at box office. He also co-scripted Shah Rukh khan – Kareena starrer Asoka in 2001. The movie was co-scripted and directed by Santhosh Sivan.

He was born in an upper class family in Delhi. His school and college years were spent at Delhi. At first he wanted to become an engineer. Later he decided to do mass communication. After graduation from University of Pune, he started his career with television where he wrote scripts for television shows. His mid shifted from copy writing to film making. In the late 1990’s he joined film industry as an assistant director. He assisted Aziz Mirza on Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani in 1999. Santhosh Sivan who worked as cinematographer for the movie offered him a job to co-script the historical movie, Ashoka. The movie was produced by Shah Rukh khan.

He was inspired a lot by Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai which prompted him to write the script of a Bollywood film. He also made his directorial debut with Pyar ke side effects, which turned to be a hit at box office. He has also directed a few television shows before his Bollywood debut. His major influence was Mani Ratnam’s Roja, which prompted him to watch movies on theatre. Al Pacino is his onscreen star icon.
