Sajitha Madathil Biography

Sajitha Madathil is a Malayalam film and theatre actress. She is Deputy Secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi. She is also a lecturer and theatre expert at National Institute of Integrated learning and management, New Delhi. In 2012, she won Kerala State second best actress award for the breakthrough performance of the movie, Shutter. The movie was shown at several international film festivals. Ee Adutha Kaalathu, Adimadhyantham, Nadan, Nizhalkoothu and Akam are her other movie appearances. Nizhalkoothu was directed by veteran Malayalam film director, Adoor Gopala Krishnan. She has also appeared in short films like Thuruthu and Indoor and children films like Janaki and Pacha kuthira. Her most recent release is Nadan, directed by Kamal. She plays supporting role in this movie. Her upcoming project is Idukki Gold.   

Sajitha Madathil was born in Kozhikode, Kerala. She took post graduation in drama from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Later she did M.Phil in Theatre Studies from MG University, Kottayam. She is also a Ph.D Scholar in School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She started her career through street dramas known by the name Kala Jatha of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad in Kerala. She is also one among the founders of Abhinethri - the first women’s theatre group in Kerala. Sajitha is active with Kerala theater since 1987.

She has acted in 20 plays, directed 2 and served as playwright for 3 - Matsyaganddhi, Chanki Chankaran Family reality Show and Mother’s Day. Sajitha has also authored a few books. In 2010, she won Kerala State Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Best Theatre Book. The book was Theatre history of Women in Malayalam Theatre. Most recently her appearance in the “Indulekha Hair Oil” advertisement created a big controversy. Her feminist ideas that hint all men are sexually ill invited a lot of criticisms.
