Saikhom Mirabai Chanu Biography 
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is an Indian weightlifter from Manipur, who owns many tournaments to her credit. She was awarded with Padma Shree by government of India in 2018 for her outstanding contributions to the field. On April 5, 2018, she won India’s first gold medal at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games with a new record in the tournament. Chanu broke three Games records in the ‘snatch’ section, the ‘clean and jerk’ and the overall games record. She also broke her personal record. She claimed silver at the 2014 CWG in 48-kg weight category too. After this silver medal win, though she qualified to 2016 Rio Olympics, she failed in the event.
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu was born on 8 August 1994 in Imphal East, Manipur. She is being trained by Kunjarani Devi, yet another great name in this field. Since 2014 she is a regular participant at international tournaments in the 48 kg category, and owns many medals such as World Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games to her credit. Silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is one among her greatest early achievements. 2017 -2018 is the most memorable year of her career, when she bagged gold medal at both World Weightlifting Championships - 2017 held in Anaheim, United States and Common Wealth games in 2018, and she was also awarded with Padma Shri the same year.
She couldn’t meet with everyone’s expectations after Rhio Olympics in 2016. She was so much disappointed that she even decided to leave the game and stop training. She was determined to win a medal this time, though she never expected to win gold at CWG with a record. She is 23 years old now. Now her dreams are high, and she wishes to go up step by step and win medals at upcoming Asian games and also 2020 Olympics.
