S. Theodore Baskaran Biography 
S. Theodore Baskaran is a well-known film historian and wildlife conservationist from Tamil Nadu. He is also a civil servant who hails from Dharapuram. He has contributed many non-fictional works related to films, and he published his works in Tamil and English language. He has also edited and translated a few books in Tamil. Em Thamizhar Seidha padam, Tamil Cinemavin Mugangal, Innum Pirakkadha Thalaimuraikkaga, Thamarai Pootha Thadagam, Vaanil Parakkum Pullelam, Soppana Vaazhvil Magizhndhe etc are his published books in Tamil, while Kaanurai Vengai is his translation work of The way of the Tiger written by by K. Ullas Karanth. He is a recipient of Golden Lotus (Best Book on Cinema) Award for The Eye of the Serpent.
Theodore Baskaran was born in Dharapuram in the year 1940. He completed his graduation in History from Madras Christian College in 1960. After studies he has worked in different departments under government sector. He worked as Researcher in Tamil Nadu State Archives for two years, followed by his service as Divisional Superintendent at Trichy in Postal department from 1964 onwards. He later served as the "Special Officer for War Efforts" in Shillong during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. In 1974, he started his research works in Tamil cinema, for which he took a leave from service.
His first research article on cinema was published in 1972, soon after his service in Shillong. It was based on Chidananda Dasgupta's documentary film, The Dance of Shiva. Later he took it seriously as a career option and enrolled for a Film Appreciation course in 1974. Since then he published many research works on cinema. At the same time, he continued his government job in postal department as well. He retired as Chief Postmaster General of Tamil Nadu. Baskaran is a keen bird watcher and a naturalist also. He is a trustee of WWF-India too.
