S. R. Hiremath Biography 
S. R. Hiremath is a social worker, environmental and anti-corruption activist based in Karnataka. He hails from Belavanaki, Ron, Karnataka, born in the year 1944. He is the founder president of the NGO Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya, which literally means Community for Social Change, and the founder of National Committee for Protection of Natural Resources. As an environmental activist, he is best known for his fights against the Illegal Mining mafia in various parts of Karnataka. He has challenged many prominent and influential people of the society including politicians and government executives for this purpose. His NGO received Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar, highest Environmental honour in India.
S. R. Hiremath was born in Belavanaki, Ron, Karnataka on 5 November 1944. He is married to Mavissa Sigwalt, and has one son and one daughter. He holds Mechanical Engineering degree from B.V.B. College of Engineering and Technology, which he completed in the year 1967. Later he moved to US to pursue higher studies, and he completed Master’s in OR and Business Administration. He worked as an Investment Banker in US for many years in various institutions, and relocated to India in the 1980s. From there on, he began his fight for environment causes.
Bringing down the powerful mining lobby in Karnataka which looted the state was not an ordinary task. But he has successfully done it many times. He also prepared various reports and filed petitions before the Supreme Court for this purpose. He finally brought the ones involved in the multi-crore mining scam to justice in 2012. He has been an activist since the past 35 years or so. His attempts put Mining baron Janardhan Reddy iin jail and Yeddyurappa was mired in a CBI probe for illegal mining.
