S. Narayan Biography

S. Narayan is a veteran filmmaker associated with Kannada cinema. He is also a film actor, screenwriter and film producer. An artist of multi-talents, he has also composed music for films, and penned lyrics as well. He has worked with all artists of Rajkumar’s family, only the second film director to achieve this feat, and has worked with almost all leading stars of Kannada cinema since his debut in early 1990s. A hitmaker of Telugu film industry, he is known for his successful association with Dr. Vishnuvardhan. In 2017 he directed the Kannada version of Marathi blockbuster, Sairat, with Rinku Rajguru reprising her lead role in the original. The movie titled Manasu Mallige received average reviews and fared average at box office too.

S. Narayan was born on 5 June 1962 in Bhadravathi, Karnataka. He is married to Bhagyavati Narayan, and the couple has three children. In 2011, he launched his son Pankaj Narayan through the movie, Dushta, and it also marked film debut of noted dancer, Surabhi Santosh. Narayan joined film scene in the 1980s, where he worked as an assistant director for some years. He has assisted Raj Kishore and A. T. Raghu for some movies, before he made his first full-fledged film in the early 1990s. He also composed songs for his films, and worked as an actor in the industry, in association with other directors.

Narayan made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Chaitrada Premanjali (1992). He casted newcomers - Raghuveer and Shwetha for the film, and the movie was a musical hit. He went on to direct around 50 Kannada movies, and also directed one Tamil movie Jai in 2004. Till late 1990s, he made fresh projects, and later concentrated most on remakes of hit films. He directed Rajkumar in his last film, Shabdavedhi in 2000.
