S. Krishna Biography

S. Krishna is a successful cinematographer and film director who works in Kannada film industry. Known to be master in cinematography field, he has given new definitions to the art of cinematography. As a cinematographer, he is best known for the work of 2006 romantic film, Mungaru Male, the first Indian film to be screened continuously for over one year in a multiplex. As a film director he is best known for his debut film, Gajakesari released in 2014. Hebbuli is his second directorial venture. Currently he is working on the project, Pailwaan. The film also marks his debut as a film producer.

Krishna was born in Bangalore on 9 June 1975. He is married to television actress Swapna, and the couple has two children. He studied at Government Film and Television Institute, Bangalore before reaching cine world. As an independent cinematographer, he started the career in 2003 with the film, Heart Beats and the works of Ranga SSLC and Sree. But he earned recognition through the challenging camera work he did for 2006 blockbuster, Mungaru Male. He captured the world famous Jog Falls for the movie, which capitulated him to fame. The film was shot in 80% natural rain, which is not at all an easy job for a cinematographer. He also received state award for his work.

2008 movie, Haage Summane gave him Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer – South. As a cinematographer, he later worked for the movies - Raaj the Showman, Kaddipudi, Johny Mera Naam Preethi Mera Kaam, Lucky, Kempegowda, Chowka, Appu Pappu, Rambo, Maleyali Jotheyali, Drama, Jaanu etc. In 2014, he marked his directorial debut with Gajakesari, which won Karnataka State Film Award for Best Entertaining Film of the year. The film was also nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Director – Kannada.
