Rupinder Nagra Biography

Rupinder Nagra is an Indian actor who plays supporting roles in Hindi films. He also appears in foreign language films and is best known for playing the role of Amal Kumar, a rickshaw driver in 2007 Canadian film, Amal. He was born in Hamilton of Canada, and is of Indian origin. He mostly appears in Canadian entertainment industry. Kurbaan as Hamid, Raees as Ali, Simran as Mike and Omerta as Maulana Ismail are some of the memorable roles he played on Bollywood screen till now.

 

Rupinder Nagra was born in Hamilton, southern Ontario, Canada. He is a Canadian citizen. During his childhood he was casted in the chorus of his Christmas play, which sparked the actor inside him. He was not much interested in chorus, and next year he pitched to his grade four teacher that they should do an Elvis Presley tour. He is an avid Elvis fan, who has given tribute to the artist through his performances at school.

 

During childhood days he also dreamt of becoming a rockstar. He played tennis while singing Indian film tunes. After finishing school, he came to Toronto to study at Second City, and he got into entertainment world after that. His role as Father in 2016 play, My Brothers & Sisters staged at the Sarah Siddons Theatre, London is memorable.

 

2007 Canadian film, Amal is his major work till now. Nagra's performance as a rickshaw driver in Amal is one of the highlights of the film. He shared screen space with talented Indian artists like Naseeruddin Shah, Roshan Seth and Seema Biswas, and he had a fantastic learning experience while working with these three. The film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. This role garnered him a Canadian Academy Nomination and The Borsos Award for Best Actor at the Whistler Film Festival.
