Roshni Dinaker Biography

Roshni Dinaker is a costume designer of south Indian cinema, who marked her directorial debut with Malayalam film, My Story in July 2018. The film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy as main lead, opened to mixed reviews and fared average at box office. As a costume designer, she works in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu film industries, and she began her career in 2002. She won Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Costume Designer 2006 for her work in Kallarali Hoovagi. As a costume designer, she has worked in more than 30 films.

Roshni Dinaker was born in Kodagu district, Karnataka. She currently lives with her husband Dinaker O. V. and two children in Marathahalli, Bangalore. She was born to Malayali father Tony Mathew from Kottayam and Kannadigan mother Asha Tony from Bangalore. She was brought up in Bangalore where she completed her education, got married and settled as well. As a costume designer, she marked her debut in the year 2002 and has handled over 30 projects, before she marked her directorial debut in 2018 with the movie, My Story, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy. She was very much concerned over the cyber-attacks by online critics, trollers and fans associations soon after the movie was released.

Associated with south Indian films as a costume designer for 14 years, a twist came to her professional life when one of her friends narrated a story and she got impressed by it. Her friend Abhijatha Umesh studied cinema in New York. Roshni then approached actor Prithviraj with the story, and he gave a positive nod. The film was shot in Lisbon for 45 days.
