Ritwick Chakraborty Biography

Ritwick Chakraborty is a popular actor of Bengali cinema. He also appeared in a few television serials. He played lead role in 2014 national award winning movie, Asha Jaoar Majhe. In 2013, he bagged Filmfare award for best actor for the movie – Shabdo. He played lead role in Anjan Dutt’s 2008 movie - Chalo Let's Go, which also starred Rudraneel Ghosh, Saswata Chatterjee and Parambrata Chatterjee in pivot roles. Though struggled a lot in the 2000s, he regularly showed his screen presence in Bengali cinema since early 2010s. His performance in the movies – Cross Connection, Necklace and Smriti Medur left deep impressions on audience’ minds.

 

Ritwick Chakraborty was born on March 31, 1977 in Barrackpore, West Bengal. He was associated with Bengali theatre quite at a very young age of just 5. Gradually he got passionate about acting and wanted to try his luck in movies. He had a lot of initial struggling before he got offers for television serials. He also appeared in a few telefilms. Josh, Bandhan, Kanakanjali and Ek Paloke Ektu Dekha are among his television roles. Pagol Premi was his debut feature film. Later he appeared in movies like Biswas Nao Korte Paren, Chalo Let's Go, Cross Connection, Le Chakka etc. Cross Connection – was one of his earliest acclaimed works.

 

One of his best works is Necklace, where he got opportunity to work with stalwarts of Bengali film industry - Dipankar Dey and Bishwajit Chakraborty. Apart from acting, reading is his passion and loves to read books at shooting intervals. He is very fond of sleep as well. Kali Banerjee in Ritwik Ghatak’s film Ajantrik is his dream role. Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil are his favourite stars.
