Renuka Biography

Renuka Chouhan, shortly called Renuka is a Tamil film and television actress, who has also appeared in a few Malayalam and Hindi movies. The television serial, Premi directed by Balachander made her a popular actress. She played the title role of Premi in this popular serial. She was introduced to Tamil film director K. Balachander by colleague Geetha, who gave her big break to film industry. She also played supporting role in Tamil television serial, Kaialavu Manasu directed by Balachander. She played the lead role in 1992 Malayalam movie, Congratulations Miss Anitha Menon. Siddhique, Jagadeesh and Sai Kumar were the lead actors of the movie. Samaantharangal, Sargam, Chithrashalabham, Pranayanilaavu, Achan Kompathu Amma Varampathu, Sthreedhanam, Mizhikal Sakshi, Pavithram, Vatsalyam and Kuttettan are other noted Malayalam hits in which she played supporting role.

Her family hailed from the town of Srirangam. But due to some bad situations the family was forced to move to Chennai where they got settled. It was due to the early death of her father. Thus she decided to search for a job in the capital city at a younger age. She got opportunity to work in an amateur drama group of Komal Swaminathan and that’s how acting happened to her. She made her big screen debut through 1989 Tamil movie, Samsara Sangeetham. After that she appeared in more than 75 movies belonging to Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi.

Her noted Hindi movies are Monsoon Wedding, Quick gun Murugan, and Ganga Yamuna Saraswathi. She played supporting roles in Tamil movies, Thevar Magan, Kalki, Alex Pandian, Vanakkam Chennai, Poi, Ayan etc. She was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ayan.
