Ravichandran (Tamil Actor) Biography

Ravichandran was a noted character associated with Tamil cinema who played both lead and supporting roles. He is the actor of Tamil cinema, who is credited to the title - Kalaingnar Thilagham. Had numerous fans in his young age, he was given dozens of titles by his fans - Evergreen Hero, Chennai MGR, Kalai chelvan, Pudhumai Thilagam and many more. He acted in two plays before his foray to films. Since 1986 he was active in TV industry. Ravichandran has married twice and divorced both times too. The famous Malayalam actress Sheela of Chemmeen Fame was his second wife and the couple had one son - George Vishnu, who is into films. It was Sheela’s second marriage too.

 

His real name was B. S. Raman. He was born in Malaysia in around 1940. In 1951 he moved to Tiruchirappalli for his sister’s marriage. Later he completed his studies in Tamil nadu. He was interested in games - tennis and basketball. He was first married to Vimala and had three children. Noted actor Hamsavardhan is the son of this couple. Later he married Sheela and had a son George. Both his sons took acting as career. Ravichandran passed away in 2011 following multiple organ failure.

 

He came to Chennai in 1963 to pursue a career in films. He was asked to see director Sridhar who was on the lookout for a new face for his next film. He made his film debut in the year 1964. Raman had acted in two plays - "AanaiyidungalAnna" and "Udhaya Suriyan" before. After his film debut too, he acted in too plays - "Mapplley Yen Magalaik Kadhali" and "That Man from Poonthamallee". 'Kaadhalikka Neramillai' -  was his debut flick, followed by around 150 films which include ‘Kumari Pen', 'Naan', 'Moonrezhuthu', 'Idhaya Kamalam', 'Adhey Kangal' and many more. He also tried his luck in film direction and launched his son Hamsavardhan through his debut flick - "Manaseega Kadhal” (1991).
