Rashid Khan (actor) Biography

Rashid Khan was an Indian actor of Bollywood yesterdays. He has played noted character and supporting roles in numerous Hindi classic movies of 1950s and 1960s. He excelled as a comic actor on screen, and is best remembered for this kind of roles. His body movements, mannerisms, expressions and dialogue delivery made him an extremely popular comedian of Hindi oldies, and he created a niche of his own through his distinct style of acting. Some of his best films are with Navketan Films and actor Dev Anand, and his roles in Tere Ghar Ke Samne and Kaala Bazar need special mention.

 

Rashid Khan joined film industry in the late 1940s, and became a very regular actor in the 1960s. He essayed different kinds of roles on screen, yet he achieved success as a comedian. In fact he got type casted as a comedian, associated with several slapstick comic scenes, and his talent was not fully explored on screen by the directors then. Dharti Ke Lal in 1946 marked his acting debut in Bollywood. His association with Dev Anand and Navketan Films began with 1950 movie, Afsar. After that he became a regular fixture in most of Dev Anand movies associated with the same banner. He was seen aside Dev Anand in Baazi, Taxi Driver, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Duniya, Nau Do Gyarah, Guide, Gambler, Kaala Paani and Kaala Bazar.

 

He has also appeared in movies of big stars like Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Shammi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna etc. He worked with Raj Kapoor in Shree 420. He also worked in several movies of filmmaker Rajinder Singh Bedi, apart from Dev Anand and Vijay Anand. Elaan, Yasmin, Usne Kaha Tha, Garam Coat, Shehar Aur Sapna, Do Dooni Char etc are a few more noted appearances. 1972 Amitbah Bachchan starrer Ek Nazar was his last release.
