Ramesh Varma Biography

Ramesh Varma is a filmmaker from Telugu cinema. He is a film director, producer, and screenwriter, best known for his recent hit film, Rakshasudu. He is associated with cine field for nearly 2 decades, and Oka Oorilo in 2005 marked his debut as an independent film director. Ride, Veera and Abbayitho Ammayi are his other movies as a director, and he produced Jaffa and 7. He wrote the screenplay and story of Mallepuvvu and 7.

His full name is Ramesh Varma Penmetsa. He hails from Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. His father P. Prasad Raju is a designer at Eenadu Colorama, Ramoji Film City. He graduated from Osmania University in 1998 and began his career as publicity designer, following his father’s footsteps. He also worked as a sketching artist before foraying into filmmaking. He designed poster ads under his firm named "Kiran Poster Ads". Preminchukundam Raa (1998) was his first designed film poster. Later he worked as a publicity designer for several Telugu films as well as a few Bollywood films in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

He directed Oka Oorilo (2005) starring actor Tarun and Saloni, marking his directorial debut, and till now remains active in the industry as a director, producer and screen writer. His debut film mostly received negative reviews. He is mostly associated with action entertainers. His second film as a director Ride (2009) was a box office hit. His third film Veera (2011), action comedy film completed 50 days in 60 centre, and also 100 days at box office, making it a big hit. However his next release, Abbayitho Ammayi couldn’t get favourable reviews. His recent release Rakshasudu, remake of Tamil thriller, Ratsasan could replicate the success of its original.
