Rama (tamil Actress) Biography

Rama is a south Indian film actress, who predominantly worked in Tamil movies. She appeared in Tamil films in the early 1990s, before she took a break due to failure in the profession. Later she returned to silver screen in the early 2010s, almost after 20 odd years and plays mother type of roles most. Kurangu Bommai, Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam, Kootathil Oruthan, Senjittale En Kadhala, Thirunaal, Kabali, Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai, Kaththi, Madras, Pillaiyar Theru Kadaisi Veedu, Aval Peyar Thamizharasi etc are her noted works in her second innings. She played lead roles in her first innings, and now plays supporting roles.

Rama hails from Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. She has been a sportswoman and a volleyball player for the Tamil Nadu team when she was spotted by director Bharathiraja. The director casted her in a lead role in the movie En Uyir Thozhan opposite actors - Babu and Thennavan. Thus Rama joined the long list of the legendary director’s illustrious ‘R’ heroines. The film revolves around activist of a political party and his demise. Though the movie and her performance received positive response from critics, it fared poorly at box office. Same year her second film Anthi Varum Neram got released. The failure of both these films gave a break to her acting career, and she called it quit.

Later she returned back to silver screen only in 2010, and remained active after that. This time she played senior roles, mostly mother type of roles. She played lead actor’s mother in many of her releases after that. She was most recently seen playing Kathir’s Mother in thriller film, Kurangu Bommai released in 2017.
