Raju Khan Biography

Raju Khan is a successful dance choreographer associated with Bollywood. Raju is the son of legendary choreographers, B. Sohanlal and his disciple Saroj Khan, who later went on to become a celebrity choreographer giving dance steps to many of the popular songs of Madhuri Dixit. As a choreographer, he has given dance steps to almost all leading stars of Bollywood. He started his career in the late 1980s, and some of his early noted works include - Saathi, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi, Sadak, Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke etc. Koi Mil Gaya, Krishh and Lagaan are among his career best works. Raju Khan bagged National award for best choreographer for "Ghanan Ghanan" of Lagaan, a year before his mother earned her first National award.

Raju Khan was born to B. Sohanlal and Saroj Khan, when his mother was only 14. 41 year old Sohanlal, an already married man with two children married his disciple Saroj Khan and assistant, Saroj Khan when she was only 13. Raju Khan was born when Saroj was 14. Raju was earlier known by the name, Hamid Khan. His younger sibling was born in 1965, who passed away after 8 months. Same year his parents separated, but reconciled later when Sohanlal got a heart attack. A daughter with name Cuckoo was born to them, but Sohanlal left them and moved to Chennai. Saroj Khan singly raised both the kids. Later his mother married Sardar Roshan and gave birth to a daughter named Sukaina khan, who now runs a dance institute in Dubai.

Raju began his career as a choreographer in the late 80’s with the movie dacoit, and he rose to fame with a string of hits in the 1990s. He has choreographed Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and almost all leading stars of the industry, and currently one of the most sought choreographers too. He has done more than 165 films.
