Rajshree Ojha Biography

Rajshree Ojha is a successful filmmaker associated with Bollywood. She is best known for her hit film, Aisha released in 2010. The movie was one of the earliest hit movies of actress Sonam Kapoor, who also registered success with the movie, I hate Love Stories, just a few months prior to the release of Aisha. She scripted and directed Chaurahen in 2007, her directorial debut and was the Director and Writer of the segment Biriyani for the anthology film, X: Past Is Present released in 2015. This segment had Radhika Apte and Rajat Kapoor in the lead and was about a couple who split on their anniversary.

 

Rajshree Ojha hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. She was born in the year 1976. Her childhood days were spent in Bangalore, and later she moved to New York City. She completed her graduation in computer science there. Following her graduation, she learnt film making from New York University. She took Master’s in film-making from American Film Institute in 2002 and made her first short film Badger as a part of academic projects which won accolades. After returning to her hometown in 2005, she started working on her first full-length feature film in Hindi.

 

Her debut flick, Chaurahen released in 2007 starred Zeenat Aman, Roopa Ganguly, Soha Ali Khan and Kiera Chaplin. Shooting was completed in 2007 but the film was shelved due to financial problems. The movie got a theatric release only in 2012 and received mixed reviews. Thus Aisha starring Abay Deol and Sonam Kapoor became her first theatric release, and commercially successful. The movie was produced by Anil Kapoor, Sonam’s father. She is a recipient of Asian Voice by Director's Guild of America, during her stay in New York.
