Rajkumar Sethupathi Biography

Rajkumar Sethupathi is a south Indian film actor known for character roles. Most recently he turned to a producer and came to limelight through Kamal Hassan starrer - Papanasam (2015), a remake of Malayalam blockbuster Drishyam. The movie was a super hit and earned good reviews. In 2014, he ventured into film production through the movie, Malini 22 Palayamkottai, a remake of Malayalam thriller - Female Kottayam. The movie was directed by his wife – Sripriya. Though appeared in Tamil and Telugu movies as a character artist in the 1980s, he predominantly worked in Malayalam films.

Rajkumar Sethupathi was born into a royal family in Chennai with political background. His father - Shanmugha Rajeswara Sethupathi was a noted Congress politician and film producer while his sister Latha has been a famous film actress and a close associate of M. G. Ramachandran. As he was interested in acting, he did a two-year acting course at South India Film Chambers. He got married to Tamil actress Sripriya in 1988, who later directed a few movies as well. The couple has two children.

He was quite active in the film scene in the 1980s. He made his film debut with Tamil films – Soolam and Uchakattam in 1980, followed by Malayalam debut with the film Thrishna in 1981. Though he was seen in character roles most, he played parallel lead in Malayalam movie - Aranyannam directed by P Venu. The ensemble cast also included Shankar, Subhashini and Sumalatha in lead roles. Thalaam Thettiya Thaarattu, Thathamme Poocha Poocha, Pooviriyum Pulari, Enikkum Oru Divasam, Asha, Poocha Sanyasi, Parasparam, Poomadhathe Pennu, karimb, Jeevitham etc are some of his noted performances as an actor. In the late 1980s he took a break from the industry and returned back as a producer in the year 2013.
