Rajesh Mapuskar Biography

Rajesh Mapuskar is a critically acclaimed and successful film director associated with Bollywood and Marathi cinema. He made his film debut with Ferrari Ki Sawaari in 2012 as a screen writer and film director. This comedy low-budget film was critically well acclaimed and emerged as a box office hit. In 2016 he made his debut in Marathi cinema through Ventilator, which bagged the most prestigious National award for best film director 2016. It’s only his second film in his direction career. He scripted the screenplay of this movie as well, which bagged best screenplay awards at Pune International Film Festival 2017 and MA TA Sanman 2017. The film had an ensemble cast of more than 100 actors.

Rajesh Mapuskar was born on 26 September 1968 in Shrivardhan, a coastal village of Maharashtra. He completed his graduation in Commerce from Mumbai. His family owned a cinema theater, and young Rajesh got associated with movies at a young age. He regularly watched movies, and was also associated with many aspects of cinema like booking movies, starting films etc since young. He is the cousin of casting director, Rohan Mapuskar best known for the works of 3 Idiots, and the most recent Shivaay and Sachin: A Billion Dreams. Rajesh introduced Rohan to the world of filmmaking, who also worked as the casting director of Rajesh’s debut film, Ferrari Ki Sawaari in 2012 and most recent Ventilator which proved successful. Rajesh got married in 1996, and started the divorce proceedings since his association of cine world as a film director.

His professional career started as early as 1991, and he has been associated with ad-film making houses along with film production houses. His career started with ad film maker Dilip Ghosh at Z Films in 1991. He has also directed several ad films for production houses like Fingerprint Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films, and worked as associate director for Hirani’s Lage Raho Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots, prior to his directorial debut.
