Rajeev Verma Biography

Rajeev Verma is a very popular and regular character artist associated with Hindi television, best known for playing father and uncle type of roles. This veteran has also appeared in many films, and is a household name among Hindi audiences. Rajeev Verma has been acting for over two decades, and has created new benchmarks for father kind of roles on Indian screen. He currently appears for the television shows, Paraya Dhan, Aur Pyar Ho Gaya, Aasman Ne Jo Likha and Kaise Kahoon and Choti Bahu. As a film actor, he is best known for playing the arrogant father of Salman Khan in 1989 iconic romantic film, Meine Pyar Kiya. Regular with Sooraj Bharjatiya and Sanjay Leela Bhansali films, his roles in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Hum Saat Saat Hain were well appreciated.

Verma hails from Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh, and was born in the year 1949. He studied Architectural Degree from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology. He is married to Rita Bhaduri, sister of Jaya Bhaduri and thus a very close relative of Bachchan family. Actor Abhishek Bachchan is his nephew. His wife (not to be confused with well-known film and television actress Rita Bhaduri) is also a theatre personality. The couple has two sons.

Verma’s acting career started in the late 1980s with Doordarshan shows and also Hindi movies. Doordarshan serial, Chunauti aired during 1987-1988 marked his acting debut. He played male lead in this show. Very soon he played one of the most memorable roles of his filmy career, Meine Pyar Kiya, with grey shades. This particular role established Verma as a character artist of the industry and roles came pouring in. 'Mujrim Hazir', Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein etc some of his early roles on television.
