Raja Mohammad Biography

Raja Mohammad is a film editor associated with south Indian films. He predominantly works in Malayalam and Tamil films. He won the National Film Award for Best Editing for his work in Paruthiveeran. As an editor he marked his career with Malayalam films in 2002, and later worked in both Malayalam and Tamil film industries. In a career spanning to one-and-a-half decade he has been associated some of the best films and directors of the both. He worked as the editor for critically acclaimed Malayalam movies like Thanmathra, Palungu, Pranayam etc, and also Tamil films – Paruthiveeran, Subramaniapuram etc. After he earned from Tamil films, he mostly worked in Tamil film industry.

Raja Mohammad hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He marked his professional career with 2002 Malayalam film, Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari, a flop. It was followed by Swapnam Kondu Thulabharam the following year. His first break to Tamil films was given by none other than Kamal Hassan, when he was offered the film, Nala Damayanthi in 2003 starring Madhavan. The movie was a hit, and he started receiving more offers from Tamil cinema. He continued working in Tamil and Malayalam films both, till Paruthiveeran happened in 2007. After winning national award for best editing for this film, he turned busier with Tamil films.

He closely worked with Malayalam director Blessy for a few movies, Thanmathra, Kaazcha, Pranayam & Palungu, regarded as his best works in Malayalam cinema. He also worked with director Rajasenan for a few movies. Subramaniapuram is yet another best work of the editor, for which he bagged Vijay Award for Best Editor. Thiruttu Payale 2 (2017) is his most recent work. Other noted works include – Eetti, Bramman, Potta Potti, Kalavani, April Fool, Chemistry, Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam etc.
