Raja Krishna Menon Biography

Raja Krishna Menon is an Indian film director who shot to fame after directing Akshay kumar’s Air Lift – the biggest blockbuster of 2016. The movie scripted by him was based on the real-life incidents and attempts made by Mathunny Mathews to evacuate record-breaking number of Indians during the Invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein in 1990. Though the character name has been changed to Ranjit Katyal, and the invasion attempts of a few more heroes were added to the film to create a single character, the movie attracted movie buff and critics alike. Airlift is Menon’s second attempt as a film director. He made his directorial debut with the film - Barah Aana in 2009. He scripted and directed the movie also. He is the son of Malayalam actor T. P. Madhavan.

Raja Krishna Menon was born and brought up in Thrissur, Kerala. But his family is of Thiruvananthapuram origin. His parents are divorced. His father T. P. Madhavan is a noted character artist associated with Malayalam cinema. His mother’s name is Sudha. She was not able to accept her husband sharing screen space with other actresses and the stress finally resulted in separation. Raja spent his childhood days in Kerala and later he completed his education in Bangalore. During his younger days while at Kerala, he heard a lot about Gulf invasion of early 1990s, which gave deep imprints to his mind.

Menon completed Engineering degree, yet he was inclined towards creativity. Menon assisted D. Radhakrishnan, an ad film director and still photographer after his studies. He moved to Mumbai in 1993 and started his independent career three years later. He was associated with ad world and made his first Bollywood film - Bas Yun Hi starring Nandita Das and Purab Kohli in 2003. It was followed by Barah ana and Air Lift.
