R. Sreelekha Biography 
Sreelekha is a famous IPS officer from Kerala. She is the first lady IPS officer from Kerala. She is one among the powerful and most admired women of Kerala and enjoys a celebrity status as well. She is a woman activist also. She is an author of many books and occasionally writes columns for magazines and newspapers. She won the President of India’s Police Medal for Meritorious Services in January 2004 and has also received the Kerala State Meritorious Service Entry in 2006 for detecting a sensational murder case. She is a reputed writer of Malayalam and a sincere police officer from the capital of Kerala.
R. Sreelekha was born as the 3rd daughter of N. Velayudhan Nair and B. Radhamma on a Christmas day in 1961. Her school education was completed at Government Model School and Cotton Hill Girls High School in the heart of the city, Thiruvananthapuram. She took BA in literature from Government woman college, Thiruvananthapuram. Then she did post graduation from Kerala University campus. She started her career as a college professor from Vidhyadhiraja PG College in 1985, and worked for two years. She passed bank test and went into the Reserve Bank of India, as Officer Grade B in 1985. She wrote the civil exams in the years 1986 and 1987 and became the first IPS lady officer from Kerala.
She has worked in different districts of Kerala and has also been appointed as DIG in CBI, New Delhi. Various posts held by her include - ASP in Cherthala and Thrissur Sub divisions, SP in Thrissur, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts, AIG in Police Headquarters, SP in Vigilance, Ernakulam, SP in CBI, Kerala, DIG in CBI, New Delhi, DIG in Vigilance and DIG, Ernakulam Range. She was later promoted as Inspector General of Police on August 2005 and posted as the Managing Director of Kerala State Co-operative Rubber Marketing Federation Ltd. in Cochin. From June 2007, she is working as MD, Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala.
She is married to Dr Sethunath, Associate Professor in Pediatric Surgery, Alappuzha Medical College and has one son. Her published books include – Manazile Mazhavillu, Cherumarmarangal, Neerazhikkappuram and Niyama Samrakshanam Streekalkku.
