R. Sharath Jois Biography 
R. Sharath Jois is an Indian yoga teacher from Mysore, Karnataka. He is the paternal grandson of K. Pattabhi Jois, great yoga teacher and Sanskrit scholar from Karnataka, best known for formulating Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. R. Sharath Jois is following his legacy, and is known for his expertise in Ashtanga yoga founded by his grandfather. He currently serves as the director of the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute, Mysore founded by his grandfather in the late 1940s. The institute was originally known as Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute when it was established in 1948. He is also an author.
His full name is Rangaswamy Sharath. He was born in Mysore on September 29, 1971. Rangaswamy and Saraswati Jois are his parents, and he also has one sister. He is married to Shruthi Jois. His family is known for the preservation and teaching of Ashtanga yoga, founded by K. Pattabhi Jois. Sharath learnt this style of yoga practice from his grandfather. Jois learned his first asanas at age seven. He has been exposed to asanas and different yoga practises since young. He learnt non-formally till the age of 14, and by the age of 19 he began formal study of the Ashtanga yoga system under his grandfather.
Sharath has faced many unhappy events since childhood. An infection at the age of 4 which developed into glandular fever, fall from the newly constructed building at the age of 7 which broke his leg and low hemoglobin count which resulted in rheumatic fever are among those. After 14, he concentrated on to his studies. At the age of 19, he started assisting his grandfather as instructed by his father, and later took over the organization found by him.
