R. Chandru Biography

R. Chandru is a filmmaker and screenwriter associated with Kannada cinema. He made his film debut as a director in the year 2008 with the commercial hit – Taj mahal, which starred Ajay Rao and Pooja Gandhi as the protagonists. The film was produced by T. Shivashankar Reddy and it was opened to positive reviews from critics. The movie completed 150 days at theaters and was a super hit.  Mylari (2010) and Charminar (2013) are other two movies of the director which managed to complete 100 days at theatre. Baadshah and Male are his announced projects. His other released movies are Ko ko, Prem Kahani and the latest release – Brahma (2014), which was a commercial hit completing 50 days at theatre. Brahma was a bilingual Action historical drama, dubbed into Tamil as well.

Chandru belongs to Keshavavara, a small village in Chikkabalapur taluk near Bangalore. He was born in a middle class family of farmers. Chandru too worked in farms during his younger days. He made his film debut as an assistant director to S. Narayan and Dayal Padmanabhan. Then he got promoted as a dialogue writer of Narayan’s television serials which proved to be successful and his career breakthrough. . He made his film debut as a director in the year 2008 with the movie – Taj mahal. The movie was a huge hit and there was no turning back after that.

His second project was Prem Kahaani and once again he casted Ajay in the lead role. Sheela played the female protagonist. But the movie couldn’t repeat the success of his maiden venture. However he bounced back with his next movie – Mylari in 2010. The movie starred Shivarajkumar and Sadha in lead roles and was a commercial hit.
