Puja Sarup Biography

Puja Sarup is an accomplished Indian theatre artist and Mumbai-based theatre coach. She started  off by studying theatre from Bombay University and has worked with various theatre companies and directors across the world. Footsbarn, The Company Theatre, Cinematograph and Arpana are some of the theater groups with which she has been associated with. She regularly conducts theatre workshops and continues with her acting practice. She is a trained folk singer and has also works with children. Theatre is her passion, which she enjoys most. She played loudmouth massage parlour owner in Anurag Kashyap’s That girl in yellow boots.

She played a clown in Rajat Kapoor’s ‘Hamlet and the Clown Prince’, which is one of her best performances till now. She received Best Supporting Actor (Female) for the play at Mahindra Excellence in Theater awards. She has also conducted workshops for kids for clowning. This artist believes that everyone has a unique clown identity. Once she watched a one-woman show by renowned clown and mime artist Nola Rae – ‘Exit Napoleon and Pursued by Rabbits’ which prompted her to do the role of a clown. Now she is best known in the company of international “clown armies”.

It was during her final year at college that she realized that she needs to move fast and to join theater. She was a student of sociology then. She auditioned for a play by Atul Kumar, called Noises Off and she got selected. She also did MA in theatre arts offered by Mumbai University and got permanently attached to the world of theatre. Now she has completed 12 years in theater.
